FAQs

FAQs for Adults

  • During the first appointment, we will gather information about your current health, treatments, symptoms, functional status, income sources (EI Sick, Short Term Disability, etc.) education and employment history. Together we will prioritize what area of your life we should target first and create goals. Often we will begin with work/school as there may be more at stake but we don’t ignore home and personal life!

We may also use standardized measures or screening tools to better understand your symptoms.

  • Yes - for ergonomic assessments we will meet you at your home or office and spend an hour going through all aspects of your workstation.

Throughout the year we also offer specialty groups for Adults. These are often a combination of in person sessions and virtual sessions.

All virtual appointments take place through a secure video conferencing platform, called Jane.

Some therapists may determine that it would be helpful to occasionally meet in person.

  • Absolutely! There are many delays in the current healthcare system if you are looking for a formal assessment and diagnosis. At Davis OT we believe that there are actions that you can take immediately if you are struggling with a certain aspect of your life. We do not need a physician referral or diagnosis to start putting together a plan and trying out some new strategies. So don’t delay - book a discovery call today to find the right therapist.

  • Some extended health insurance plans provide coverage for OT and SW services. If services are not covered, clients are encouraged to contact their insurance company to see if these services will soon be covered or if you can switch it with another service that you don’t use. Here is a sample letter to your employer and sample letter to your insurance company that may be used to advocate for OT or SW coverage.

We ask that you pay for your service following an appointment using a valid credit card. A receipt will be emailed to you and you can submit it to your insurance plan for reimbursement.

We do not bill insurance directly.

  • You can access all of your invoices and receipts through your Jane profile. Here’s a guide on the steps you will need to take.

  • Professional fees are set in accordance with the recommended fee range for occupational therapists and social workers in private practice, established by the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists and the The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

Services are HST exempt under Canada Revenue Legislation. Davis Occupational Therapy does not provide services through MVA benefits, i.e. OCF18. All services are fee for service.

  • If you are unable to keep the appointment you have reserved, please call with more than 24 hours notice to avoid being charged. Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged the full rate of the service booked.

With all of our groups, full payment is processed prior to the start of the group. Each week a receipt is issued for you to submit for reimbursement. Please note, there are no refunds or credits for missed group sessions. You will receive a receipt stating that you were absent so you will not be able to submit to insurance as you did not receive the service.
